| Profiled
screens are made from bars of profiled shape or specially shaped wires known
generally as wedge wire. The resulting mesh structure can be used for flat
screens or sieves or in such forms as troughs, curved or circular screens,
discs, cylinders, etc. Wedge wire screens in particular, are true edge filters
and offer superior mechanical strength and finer apertures than it is possible
to achieve with woven wire screens. The wedge taper shape is most commonly employed with a flat top, and is excellent for the dewatering of slurries. The top may be modified to a conical form for fine mesh screens for dewatering slurries. This shape is more likely to clog or 'blind' but reduces screen wear when abrasives are present in the slurry. However, a thickened and squared off top is usually preferred where high abrasive materials are handled as this allows for a considerable amount of wear to take place before the aperture opening is modified. |
